Perhaps Lush was going for the old reverse psychology thing by naming this facial cleanser "Ultrabland". It really brought out my inner-teenage. You can’t tell me not to try this product because it’s boring. I’ll be the judge of that. You’re not the boss of me!!! (I probably would have slammed a door if there was one at Lush to slam.)
Yes, everything about this product, from the boring black tub, to the name, to the smell, which reeked of utter and complete blandness, screams “don’t buy me” but that just made me want to buy it more.
When I got home, all fired up, I tried my new Ultrabland cleanser. I was very impressed with this little, self-deprecating product.
You scoop it out of the tub, like that Goop hand cleanser mechanics use. Which somehow seemed cool in its un-coolness. (Perhaps, yet another reverse psychology trick? Who knew Lush was so into mind games?)
The cleanser goes on almost like cold cream and it has to be removed with a washcloth- needs something with a little texture to rub it off. It leaves skin feeling super soft, clean, and perfectly moisturized. And it’s good for all skin types (even sensitive).
Yes, I suppose it appears to be bland, but it’s kind of like that girl, in the teen movie, who everyone ignores.
Then someone convinces her to take off her glasses, let her hair down and apply hundreds of dollars worth of make-up. Next thing you know she’s walking in slow motion to some bad 80's heavy metal song.
You go, Ultrabland.

Even the label looks like it was written by the most boring teacher you’ve ever had.
Anyone out there have any Lush products you love?

LUSH skincare smells so good but it wreaks havoc with my pores. I think it's because many of their face products contain cocoa butter and/or coconut oil. My face just doesn't like either of them. I also don't understand why LUSH, a pioneer in the fresh, handmade skincare movement continues to use parabens. UGH!

I LOVE Lush products. I used to suffer from horrible skin and for whatever reason, it knocked out my acne.
My face favorites are the Sea Vegetable bar, the Ocean Salt, Aquamarina, Angels on Bare Skin, and Mud Flats. My skin builds up crazy resistance to products, so I mix it up -- although I tend to use the Sea Vegetable daily.
Body wise, I LOVE the Dream Cream lotion...pricey but I have never found another lotion like it. Their exfoliating bars, like Buffy, are pretty awesome too.
And last, I can't live without my Flying Fox shower gel. I have it on good authority it's also Viggo Mortensen's favorite. :P

I liked their solid shampoos for a while, but after a few months my scalp started to get angry and I can't use them anymore. However, I still love their Silky Underwear dusting powder (this seems to be a love/hate product, since I remember reading some reviewers on their website say this smells like cat pee--I wouldn't know, I'm a dog person), which has helped me get rid of random rashes I've had on my body. I also love their Buffy bar--it's this oatmeal-colored bar that smells like cocoa and shea butter. You take a shower first to get your skin wet, then wet the bar a bit, and rub it all over your body. It exfoliates and moisturizes, so you don't need lotion when you get out. Word of caution though--it does make the tub slippery, so unless you want to go the route of the "I've fallen and I can't get up" lady, exit the shower carefully.

Hey Elisabeth,
Wow. Thanks for the list. I'll definitely have to try the Sea Vegetable bar because I'm obsessed with seaweed products right now. As for the flying fox, if it's good enough for Viggo, who's a flying fox, it's good enough for me.
thanks

Hey Elle,
I actually bought the Buffy bar in the middle of the summer and it was way too moisturizing for my greasy summer skin but I'm excited to break it out again now that it's cold out. And I'll try not to slip and kill myself while getting out of the shower. Thanks for the reco and the warning.
