To keep all your organs functioning at their best, (skin is the body’s largest organ), it’s beneficial to occasionally (like say after you’ve just eaten two candy canes, 27 Hersey’s kisses, eight cookies, some pie and oh, why not, another cookie) to give your whole internal system a good cleansing and flush out all the, for lack of a better word, crap.
Unlike an enema, which cleans only a small part of the intestines, the following detoxifying salt water flush, cleans out the entire digestive system. It’s the salt water flush from the Master Cleanse.
I attempted to try the Master Cleanse for a week once. It’s a mixture of lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and water. It’s the only thing you’re allowed to ingest. Nothing else. I didn’t mind the taste and it actually gave me energy. But after two days, I got so bored with drinking the same thing, that I broke my fast with a large pizza.
Anyway, this salt water flush will rock your internal world.
I won’t lie. It tastes disgusting. After you get it down, you’ll think it didn’t do anything. Until you turn into Usain Bolt on the way to the bathroom. Once there, you’ll experience what can best be described as the explosion of Hoover Damn.
But on the upside, boy, does it ever clean you out.
Sound enticing? Here’s the recipe.
Before eating any food in the morning, mix one quart of lukewarm water with two teaspoons of sea salt (don’t use regular table salt or it won’t work properly). Drink the entire concoction and within an hour you should be all cleaned out. It’s supposedly safe to use as often as needed.
Now that you have this recipe, couldn't you just kick yourself for not eating just one more cookie?
My Master Cleanse attempt didn’t last long enough. But I heard, if you go for 3 days or more, your skin will look totally radiant and detoxified.
Have you ever tried a cleanse or fast? If so, what’d you think?

Sounds like a recipe for dehydration?
I think I'd rather stay a bit fatter than to have my bottom blown off from this cleanse.
How did it go for you?

I was doing it more for detox than for weight loss. It didn't dehydrate me maybe because at the time I was doing the Master Cleanse which was all liquids all the time. But I have to say I felt lighter and healthier after. Not something I'd do often but I have to say I definitely felt healthier and more energetic after. (It's just the during that's not so pleasant:) You know what they say, "what doesn't kill us, only makes us stronger":)

I went on a cleanse exactly once. I was told to do it on my busiest day, so I wouldn't spend a whole lot of downtime thinking about how damn hungry I was. Unfortunately, I was working as an after-school teacher, and let me tell you, you don't want to be fasting/cleansing while watching 50+ kids. I almost made it through, but ended up going out and getting sushi instead of finishing.

Oh my Amanda,
50+ kids and fasting sounds like a horrible combination:) jenny

I have been drinking a glass of lukewarm water with 1 tbsp of honey and 1 tsp of lemon juice, first thing in the morning, for a few years now.
According to Ayurveda, this concoction is supposed to aid bowel movement, detoxify (whatever that means), improve skin clarity and help in losing weight (maybe there isn't much space left to pile in on a big breakfast later). Though plain lukewarm water tastes like crap, I've noticed it almost always kills my rampant appetite (helpful esp. at this time of the year).. honey+lemon makes it much more palatable.

Thanks Truptip. I'm going to try that. The holidays have stretched my stomach big time and turned me into a chocolate fiend. I'm going to buy me some lemons tomorrow and hopefully stop the insanity:)

hey all -
i did the master cleanse last year for 10 whole days. the first couple of days were rough, but by the end of it, my skin was glowing, i had a GREAT energy, best sleep i ever got, and i lost 20 pounds (the weight loss thing is definitely not permanent if you don't stay healthy and exercise afterwards). the hardest part of it was the flush in the morning, and even on the 10th day, it still sucked. you can't imagine how hard it is to drink a quart of salt water. but detox it did and it's great for discipline (something i thought i had NONE of). i'm definitely thinking of starting the new year off with the cleanse again :)
happy new year!

That's so amazing you lasted 10 days, David. And that's from someone who couldn't make it past 2, so I know how hard it is. Glad to hear when you stick with it, that it is all it's cracked up to be.

To get the most out of Master Cleanse, you need to go at least 10 days. 2 days is way too little!
I do it twice a year and all I have to say is - hang on and last 10 days and you will not regret it!
You will loose weight because of the cleansing and also the lack of food going in but best of all, you feel refresh, light and revitalized!

Hey Body Detox,
I can't believe you last 10 days, never mind two times a year. That's amazing. What do you think the minimum amount of days I can go to get the detox benefits? Not to be a quitter before I've begun, but I don't think I have it in me to last the 10 days.
thanks
