Oh my God. I saw this new, U*tique vending machine on W magazine's website and immediately felt like a kid in a … at a vending machine.
The U*tique is a high-tech contraption, that dispenses luxury skincare and beauty products. The creator of the U*tique (actually this thing is so impressive, I’m just going to refer to her as “the creator”), 29-year-old Mara Segal, is a former consultant for companies, including Absolut and Dove.
The U*tique will be debuting this month at my all-time, favorite store, Studio at Fred Segal in Santa Monica. Mara Segal at Fred Segal. (Hmmm? Is there some nepotism going on here ?)
Is it just me, or is this thing the Barney for adults? I feel like it's putting me in a trance. I love you. You love me.
It’ll be stocked with 50 top luxury beauty products- from the well-known, to the soon to be well-known (Malin + Goetz, Clark's Botanicals, MD Skincare, Smashbox Cosmetics, Frédéric Fekkai).
Some of the products will be skewed according to location. For instance, an U*tique at the gym, may include gym specific items like, Frederic Fekkai shampoo and Phix energy supplements.
To purchase an item, simply swipe your credit card, push a button and a little robot will gently carry your product from its shelf. I like the robot part. I’d be really embarrassed if I had to stand there violently slamming my shoulder into the machine, trying to get my very expensive, dangling skincare product.
I think this thing is going to be a great success and I can’t wait to encounter one in person.

You are such a talented writer--and as a previous commenter said "the funniest beauty writer ever".
Thanks for the laughs and great tips.

Wow! that vending machine for luxury skincare products was so cool. I just wonder if there is a vending machine like that in malls. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your post.

Why not? Not just beverages are convenient but also beauty products. Be beautiful as fast and easy as you want. Looking forward to that.
