Have you been watching the news lately? It’s like a bad movie.
I keep expecting Harrison Ford to run on to the news set and make his concerned-eyebrows look, before rushing off to try to save the world.
And every night, the news seems to gets worse. The unemployment rate is the worst since 1997… since 1987… since 1979… since The Great Depression. What’s next… the unemployment rate is the worst since Prehistoric man times?
Considering, the two leading causes of stress are #1 money and #2 work (and this was back in 2005 before the recession). It’s no wonder everyone is feeling a bit stressed.
Unfortunately, besides being stressful, stress has been proven to break down collagen, which makes us look older.
Which could explain why after months and months of unemployment, I look like a 90 year old, who smokes 10 packs of cigarettes a day and eats only pork grinds for every meal.
While I can’t control the news out there, I can control the news in my head, which is why I’ve stopped checking my 401k balance, watching the nightly news and reading the paper.
But just so I don’t miss out on any really important news, like locust are coming, I watch both The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. I get all the important news, but I’m too busy laughing to get stressed out by it.
Want to protect your sanity and more importantly your collagen? Try tuning out all the negative news sources and tune into the Daily Show and The Colbert Report instead- 11 PM and 11:30 PM, respectively, on Comedy Central. You can also watch full episodes for free online at www.thedailyshow.com and www.colbertnation.com or www.hulu.com.
How are you dealing with all the negative news out there?

I <3 this post.

I like this! Laugh lines are an acceptable form of wrinkle for me.
